History Study Centre  [ start demo... ]

This demonstration is designed to show you the main features of History Study Centre, giving you an idea of the range of resources available, and instructing you on the best ways to access the wealth of material History Study Centre has to offer. To read a full overview of History Study Centre click here.

History Study Centre is made up of five composite parts, Study Units, Reference Library, Picture Library, KnowledgeNotes™ History Guides and the Web Gateway. These can all be accessed separately or searched together using Quick Search and Advanced Search. The following areas are covered in this demonstration:

Searching: You can search all the components of History Study Centre directly from the home page. Use the Quick Search to gain a quick overview of the resources available, or the Advanced Search to create a more sophisticated search.

Topic Tree: The Topic Tree is an easy-to-use and attractive search pathway, which guides you through geographical regions and historical periods until you reach the Study Unit for the topic you wish to study.

Picture Library: Use the Picture Library to search for images from almost fourteen centuries of history.

Journal Library: The Journal Library provides access to top history journals which can be searched or browsed by issue. Cover-to-cover full text is available for each journal for runs which often go up to the most recent issue; the Journal Library is regularly updated with new issues.


Palmer's Full Text Online  [ start demo ]

This demonstration is designed to take you through the main features of Palmer's Full Text Online, giving you an idea of the best ways to search and the type of information you can find in the product. The following areas are covered in the demonstration:

Searching: You can search Palmer's Full Text Online directly from the home page with Quick Search, or refine your search to produce narrower results with Advanced Search.

Viewing Results: The list of results page provides an overview of your search results, and also allows you to re-sort them, to aid your navigation of them.

Viewing Full Text: Clicking on the column image link takes you to the full text of the article, which can be resized to aid on-screen reading and downloaded into an Adobe PDF version so it can be printed.

Go To Column: Using this function enables you to be taken straight to a specific column in the newspaper.


The Annual Register  [ start demo... ]

This demonstration is designed to take you through the main features of The Annual Register. It shows you the variety of ways in which you can search this product, and gives you an idea of the range of material available in The Annual Register. The following areas are covered in this demonstration:

Searching: You can search The Annual Register index directly from the home page with Quick Search, or refine your search to produce narrower results with Advanced Search.

Viewing Results: The list of results page provides an overview of your search results and also allows you to re-sort them, enhancing your navigation of them.

Viewing Full Text: Clicking on the page image link takes you to the full text of the article, which can be resized to aid on-screen reading and downloaded into an Adobe PDF version so you can print a high resolution copy.

Table of Contents: Use this feature to browse through a particular volume of The Annual Register.

Go To Page: Use this function to go straight to any page you want to in The Annual Register.


My Archive  [ start demo... ]

My Archive is a feature that is available in three of the History Online products, The Annual Register, History Study Centre and Palmer's Full Text Online. It has been designed specifically to help you with your research, by offering a personalised area where you can save up to 50 records and up to 50 searches.

This demonstration is designed to give you an introduction to My Archive, and to illustrate how the various features work, including:

My Records: Save full text items in this section, to compile a collection of the historical resources most useful to you.

My Searches: Save searches that you have previously executed, so that you can launch the same search again at a later date.

Emailing Records: Use this feature to send your selected records by email to other History Online users.
